4 KERICHO COUNTY OFFICIALS ARRESTED OVER 100M tender scandal.
NAIROBI, 20th JULY 2022- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested four Kericho County government officials for procurement irregularities in a shilling 100million tender to upgrade Kerenga Airstrip.
The Commission says the four, three of them being county government officials and the other one, a surveyor from the ministry of lands altered the tender to favour a particular bidder and lock out the rest.
Kibet Ngetich Nelson, Evaline Chepkirui Marogo Ngeno, John Kiprono Mibei, Geoffrey Komen Kibwen were arrested after EACC’s South Rift Regional office in Nakuru received a complaint about the evaluation criteria for the tinder to rehabilitate the Airstrip.
The tender evaluation Committee was appointed by the chief officer public works, Roads and Transport, Peter Koskey on the 18th April 2018, as a result , Jemorah Construction company was awarded after submitting the lowest bid at a sum of Kenya shilling 97, 421,980.
EACC said that the company was not registered with the National Constructions Authority adding that forged completion certificates were used by the company, therefore it had no capacity to undertake the construction at all. The completion certificates were purported to be obtained from the county government of Narok and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, Nakuru South Regional office.
The Office of the director of public prosecutions concurred with the recommendations of EACC to charge the Four and they will be arraigned at the Kericho Anti- Corruption Magistrates Court on Wednesday 20th July, 2022.
The commission added that it is pursuing three other suspects with related offences, a kericho County official and two directors of Jemorah Construction Company limited.
