Hon. Nicholas Okwacho Transforms Eastleigh South: Commissions Youth-Led Car Wash and Tours Motherland Slum
Eastleigh South, Nairobi — May 25, 2025
In a major boost for youth empowerment and environmental restoration, Eastleigh South MCA Hon. Nicholas Okwacho Juma has commissioned a new youth-run car wash in the Motherland slum area. The initiative aims to provide job opportunities to unemployed youth while transforming a previously neglected dumping site into a productive and clean space.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to uplift marginalized communities through practical, grassroots development. The area, once known for its unsightly waste and poor hygiene, is now home to a functional car wash that is already benefiting young people eager to work and earn a living.
Following the commissioning, Hon. Okwacho took time to walk through the Motherland slum, interacting with residents and listening to their challenges. From poor drainage and lack of employment to insecurity and sanitation concerns, locals had a chance to voice their issues directly to their elected leader.
Residents appreciated the MCA's physical presence in the area, noting that such gestures of humility and concern are rare. Many felt heard and expressed hope that their concerns would be addressed through continued collaboration and community engagement.
The car wash is expected to improve the livelihoods of dozens of young people and contribute to the overall cleanliness and economic activity of the area. It also stands as a symbol of how neglected spaces can be reclaimed for public good when leadership and community come together.
